Cherry Hill supports local biodiesel use

Cherry Hill Township in New Jersey will be using B20 in its 40-vehicle fleet thanks to a state Local Government Biodiesel Fuel Rebate Program. Moving away from petroleum diesel has long been on the townships to do list, said Mayor Bernie Platt, but the higher cost was a deterrent to using the pollution-reducing, green alternative fuel. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities operates the rebate program to fund the incremental difference in cost between biodiesel and petroleum diesel. The New Jersey program is funded by $500,000 from the petroleum overcharge reimbursement fund created after lawsuit settlements with major oil companies which date back to the 1970s energy crisis.
